AWARD OF MERIT

Regional Awards Showcase Design Excellence

“To encourage excellence in architectural design and planning and to provide an avenue through which architects may gain recognition by their peers and the public.  The ultimate goal is to raise the standards of architectural design excellence for both the architectural community and the public.”

The AIA/Northwest and Pacific Region Design Awards Program was held in conjunction with the Regional Conference, “A02 Urban Adventure, Remaking a City” August 7-11 in Tacoma.  The ‘Call for Entries’ solicited projects from Alaska, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Idaho. Montana, Oregon, and Washington.  Submittal categories included residential buildings, office/commercial/retail buildings, education/health care buildings, institutional/civic buildings, renovation/adaptive reuse/preservation, and other buildings and interiors.

The Awards were presented as follows:


Aloha Council- Boy Scouts of America

The CJS Group Architects

 

Excellent Hawaiian transformation of a mainland typology, responding to climatic and environmental factors.


Private Residence Bangkok

CL3 Architects

 

Success lies in its ability to combine cotemporary and traditional Asian forms using a minimalist vocabulary.


Richardson Hall, Forest Ecosystems

SRG Partnership

 

Forestry theme well expressed architectural forms and details, especially in its use of energy efficient and environmental factors that is particularly appropriate to a Forestry building.

Responds to the multiple contexts of the building through subtle collage of architectural plan, materials and organization.

Fine adaptive reuse through a minimalist, well-matched contemporary architectural response to the original building. 


Vashon Island Transfer and Recycling Station

Miller Hull Partnership (sub-consultant to Thomas Wright Inc. - Prime Engineers)

 

Subtle articulation of form and materials; use of recycled materials and day lighting; successful collaboration with artists.
