AIA Grassroots and Leadership Conference
in Washington DC

In 2008, the AIA Northwest and Pacific Region sent three people to the Grassroots Leadership Conference with scholarship awards. Each of the receipants was asked to write a summary of their time at the conference. Click below to read a PDF of their unique experiences.

Would you like to be sponsored to attend Grassroots in 2010 or subsequent years? You can find the requirements below.

Candidates for sponsorship can be from any one of the three divisions sublisted below. The Leadership Development Team reserves the right to award multiple sponsorships to any category, or none to a category with a lack of qualified candidates. The requirements for each division are as follows:

  1. Young AIA architect members who have been licensed for less than 10 years; who would like to learn about AIA initiatives and leadership opportunities and how they can actively participate on a local and/or national level.
  2. Any AIA member of any experience level who is interested in developing their leadership skills and becoming more involved with the AIA.
  3. Associate AIA members who would like to learn about the AIA’s role on the national level and what they can do to develop their leadership role in their local AIA component.

Interested candidates are asked to submit:

  • A one page letter of nomination from a chapter of the AIA Northwest & Pacific Region;
  • A one page resume; and,
  • A one page essay from the nominee focusing on what he or she hopes to gain from the experience both personally and professionally.

Candidates may also be self-nominated. Self-nominated candidates are asked to provide two references from AIA members in good standing. Please contact us with your thoughts or request for more information at Stephanie@aiawa.org.
